We live in a society that always seeks quick results. Patience may be a virtue, but it does not come easily to most of us!
Or maybe it's just me.
Years ago, when Juanita and I were first dating, I was in a rush to deliver the Christmas gifts I had bought for her. Unfortunately, less than a mile out of the driveway my truck began to overheat. I had a tough decision to make, but I knew what I needed to do. I cranked up the heater full blast and drove thirty-five miles to Juanita’s house!
I had presents to deliver!
The Result of My Timing
I know what you’re thinking. I should have turned around, but my eagerness to deliver her presents had overwhelmed my sense of reason.
Juanita absolutely loved her gifts, but when the time came to go home my truck would not start, and it never did again after that day. I had blown my engine!
My impatience literally cost me my truck, which sadly I couldn’t afford to fix. Yes, I totaled my truck delivering Christmas presents. I suppose that means I wouldn’t make a very good Santa Claus!
When we are impatient we often try to force things to happen in our timing, or we lose interest and give up; however, there is a third and better option. In Galatians 6:9, Paul reminds us, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” In other words, don’t get impatient—a harvest is coming!
The Result of God's Timing
Part of our spiritual growth is learning to trust and wait on the Lord. His timing is always better than ours, even though we may not see it right away. If we will just remain steadfast, believing that God keeps His promises, we will see incredible results happen in our lives.
Left to our own devices we often rip ourselves off and settle for second best, but God is telling us that if we will just wait on Him there will be an incredible harvest to reap!
So don’t be like me and blow your engine on Christmas day; instead, wait on the Lord and He will give you good gifts in His perfect timing.
